 Artist statement

Urban cultures manufacture continuously, just to throw away and replace. These discarded materials —paper, plastics, glass, textiles, ceramics, and metals—become the debris of everyday life, continuing to exist around us, weathering and maturing in a nomadic state.

My work is an attempt to discover and reimagine the meaning of these found materials, searching for their identities in the liminal space between reality and fantasy. Two car doors become the wings of a goddess. Found objects from city districts transform into totems, marking the territories of unseen tribes. Fragments of fly-posters from past events form collages of imagined performances, quiet intimacies, unexpected adventures.

I imagine urban tribes, mixing their language, rituals and customs. Do we belong among the resulting ‘inter-tribe’? Who are we then? What do we look like? What language fits us best? What do we have to say to each other?
